The Port of Constantza offers good prospects
for the development of the transit traffic bound for Central Europe, especialy
due to the completion of the Rhine-Maine - Danube corridor and to the setting
up of the Free Trade Zone.
CONSTANTZA PORT is located at the end of the Danube
- Maine - Rhine waterway, which crosses the whole Europe connecting the Black
Sea with North Sea.
It has possibilities for the accommodation of the
biggest maritime vassels passing through the Suez Canal, Dardanelles and Bosphorus
in the Black Sea.
Eight day of navigation are saved, including relevant costs and expenses, by
using the new waterway.
Located at the crossing of the trade routes which link the East with the West
of Europe and of those linking Middle East the Far East and the North Africa
with Europe, the Port Of Constantza offers a number of advantages of which the
most important are the following:
- the favorable geographical position and the direct acces to the Rhin -
Main - Danube corridor ,which shorten the route to the Central Europe by 8
sailling days;
- good connections by all the transport modes
- modern handing capacities for almost all kind of cargoes and availability
of specialized handing modes such as container terminal , Ro-Ro and Ferry-boat
terminal, lash
- enough depth to accomodate vessels up to 200,000 DWT
- availability of a Free Trade Zone offering financial incentives to the foreign
investors
The development plan foresees as main
objectives a container terminal with a final capacity of 800,000 TEUs and a
storage and processing facility for cereals, both located in the in the South
Port on the Pier no 2S and respectively 3S, LPG terminal located in the North
Port and a Management Information System which is designed to serve all the
port users and to make the connection with port data networks in the Black
Sea/Mediterranean area.
All the just mentioned advantages , together with
the new objectives foreseen in the development plan, support the new status of
the port as a hub for the Black Sea area and the Eastern Gateway of Europe.
The development of the international relations
are of utmost importance for the new role of the port.
in this respect, it can be mentioned the membership of some international associations
such as the International Association of Ports and Harbours, the International
Association of Cities and Ports, the Mediterranean Community of Transportation
and bilateral co-operation with the port of Rotterdam, Marseille, Trieste and
in the near future Hamburg.
By its development projects by improving
and diversifying its services, by integrating into the European transport networks,
the Port of Constantza is striving to meet its clients demands and to be prepared
for the new developments in the transport sector at worldwide standards.
